☽ A Spiritual Reading List ☾no.1: Dr. Christiane Northrup M.D. OGB/YN
Many of my clients at Ascension Hypnosis ask me for recommended reading to help them deepen and expand their understanding of the healing path. Here I will tell you in my own words how these authors and their books have affected my internal life for the better!
☽ Who's this book for: Mostly ladies (your gal pals who are trippin about their wrinkles even at age 30, your Mom who is moderately depressed and newly single) who are apprehensive about getting "aging", however my cis-bf has gained a lot listening to this Wise Woman in his car
☽ How to Enjoy: AudioBook is amazing because Dr. N's voice is calm and reassuring BUT ALSO I have bought the hardcover for all the charts and exercises
☽ Why I read it: Because when I turned 30 I vowed to make peace with getting older and I've loved Dr. Northrup since Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom
☽ Key Elements & Lessons learned: Getting older is awesome! Seriously though I now have a TOTALLY different outlook and TRUE PEACE OF MIND about becoming more and more powerful and joyful as I grow...truly invaluable
☽ My Rating 27/28

I’m so excited to share with you about one of my all time favourite Wholistic Health Heros! I’ve been following Dr. Christiane Northrup since I was a teenager, when I rented her audiobook Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom from the public library. I was suffering from chronic womb pain as well as debilitating depression and PTSD. Hers was the only “medical” perspective that offered me some hope when all of the doctors were either slut-shaming me, telling me it was “all in my head” or just trying to put me on Prozac.
With her new blockbuster title, Goddesses Never Age: The Secret Prescription for Radiance Vitality and Well-Being I have once again become OBSESSED!!!
Living in LA in my late twenties, I was already starting to feel old and devalued for my age (ugh, this society, am I right?) so upon my return home to Montreal, I set the intention to make peace with the natural aging process. That’s when I found Dr. Northrup’s new book through my Audible account, and since then, I have literally listened to it at least three times in its entirety!!! I also throw it on when I’m driving with my boo or cooking dinner with roommates, often to cries of “Hell yes, who is this Queen?!” especially from the cis-dudes tbh ;)
Her knowledge is vast and her humour is cutting. To paraphrase a fave quote from a talk she gave for a Metagenics Conference:
watch this excellent intro to her views and vibes they spelled her name wrong on the upload
“We’re conceived with an orgasm and our death experience is very likely an orgasm and everything in between is a friggin emergency!”
Dr. Northrup purports her own genuine brand of hilarious, honest and wholehearted health advice. But that’s almost reductive, she is
PURE ENLIGHTENED FEMINIST GODDESS MAGIC WISDOM
given to you straight and concise. She backs all her statements with “science” catering to the left brain while still waxing poetic about the sensual pleasure and joy of living.
She’s like the Mom you wish you had.
I love her warm voice reading to me on her audiobook and HIGHLY recommend it AS WELL AS the hardcover print edition. I use the hardcover almost as a textbook or reference guide, and truth be told, I even throw listen to the audiobook when I can’t sleep at night, or if I’m feeling grumpy and can’t shake it. She always helps me shake a bad mood by reminding me that we are here to have fun:

In a society that DOESN’T teach us how to enjoy living in our bodies, Dr. Northrup is a comforting and knowledgeable voice in the sea of chaos that is late-capitalist consumer society. She is what we as women WANT and NEED to hear when our inner guidance is telling us there is something not right with the stories and pills we are being sold to “fix” our bodies and minds.
She speaks honestly about her personal history as an over-worked, disconnected, and self-critical medical professional. Possibly what I love most about Dr. Northrup’s work (and her most recent book is definitely the most distilled example of this quality) is that she makes no apologies or compromises about her new-agey beliefs. I love the way that she seamlessly makes the connection between the physical and the spiritual when discussing her own health struggles. From nearly going blind with anger at her mother to developing a giant breast cyst while trying to balance the demands of a career and a new baby, her personal and professional experiences offer a lifetime of relatable wisdom.
From her Website:
